01 / CONSTRAINT ANALYSIS

Why High-Resolution Images Struggle to Reach 100 KB

A typical 12-megapixel smartphone photo contains over 36 million uncompressed bytes in memory (4032 × 3024 × 3 color channels). When compressed with standard JPEG at 85% quality, it usually lands between 2.2 MB and 3.5 MB.

Pushing that massive pixel matrix down to 100 KB using quality reduction alone requires an extreme quantization factor (quality < 20%), resulting in severe 8×8 block artifacts, color banding, and ringing around edges.

Bitmorfy solves this by automatically balancing subtle resolution scaling (e.g. down to 1400px–1600px, which remains crystal-clear on retina screens) alongside modern WebP/JPEG quantization. This keeps the file under 100 KB without turning your image into a pixelated blur.

EMPIRICAL RESEARCH GROUNDING

Empirically verifies that WebP at 85% quality achieves a 32.3% byte reduction over JPEG with SSIM 0.966, enabling 100 KB constraints without visible block artifacts.

05 / FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my image be smaller than exactly 100 KB?

Yes. Our binary-search compression budget targets 90 KB–98 KB to ensure the output reliably passes 100 KB upload limit checks.

Are my personal pictures uploaded to any server?

No. The transcoding executes entirely in your browser memory using the HTML5 Canvas API and Web Workers. Zero bytes leave your device.

What if the portal requires JPG specifically?

You can toggle the output format between WebP and JPEG. If you select JPEG, Bitmorfy applies optimized DCT quantization to stay under 100 KB.
